Title: Tango Townships
Instruments: Brass Quintet
This piece is a theme and variations. Unlike most pieces of that form, the theme is not revealed until about halfway through the composition – it coalesces out of the earlier variations. Each of the variations takes one aspect of the mystery theme and expands upon it, usually in an unrelated form. For example, one particularly memorable aspect of the theme is turned into the subject of a fugue. This work was written for the Five Star Brass (Air Force).
